Ultrasound
Therapeutic ultrasound is a safe and effective treatment widely used in physiotherapy to help reduce pain, promote tissue healing, and improve movement in a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.
At Motion, we use ultrasound therapy as part of a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.
Conditions where Ultrasound Therapy helps:
- Tendonitis and tendinopathies (e.g., Achilles, tennis elbow)
- Muscle strains and tears
- Ligament sprains
- Bursitis
- Joint inflammation and stiffness
- Scar tissue management after injury or surgery
- Certain nerve irritations
What Is Therapeutic Ultrasound?
Therapeutic ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves delivered through a handheld device to target deep tissues beneath the skin. These sound waves create gentle heat and mechanical effects that can:
- Increase blood flow to the affected area
- Promote healing of injured muscles, tendons, and ligaments
- Reduce pain and inflammation
- Loosen tight tissues and scar tissue
- Stimulate tissue repair and regeneration
Ultrasound therapy is non-invasive, painless, and usually combined with other treatments like exercise, manual therapy, and education.
How We Use Ultrasound at Motion
During your treatment, your physiotherapist will gently move the ultrasound head over the affected area with a conductive gel to ensure smooth contact. You may feel a mild warming sensation, but the treatment is generally very comfortable.
Ultrasound is used alongside hands-on therapy and guided exercises to speed up recovery and improve your function. The number of sessions and treatment duration depend on your specific condition and progress.
